GSK Data Center, Collegeville, PA --A pharmaceutical company selected Oldcastle Precast Building Systems for their new data center in Upper Providence, PA. The 70,000 SF facility will house and track patient information in large databases to better service clients with critical information.
Marking an entry to the corporate campus, this facility centralizes a number of functions and strives to redefine the use of precast concrete wall panels in order to take advantage of its straightforward modularity, quality control, early shop drawings and speed of erection.
Interplay of ribbed and smooth panels was utilized to break up the visual mass of such a large project, adding a significant visual interest to all of the facility’s facades. The ability to emulate the color and texture of the existing buildings freed the design team to explore the use of form liners to create deep shadows that contrast with smooth, crisp surfaces. Oldcastle manufactured 291 insulated wall panels using CarbonCast® technologies. The panels achieved an R-value of 20. The project recently was awarded the 2010 Best Manufacturing Facility from Precast Concrete Institute.
