Oldcastle Precast provided design and production of the 99 precast concrete rail crossing segments, known as their StarTrack® System and 16 precast tapered approach slabs to upgrade the four light rail crossing areas. All work, at each location, had to be completed in a 36 hour period to lessen train schedule interruption.
Oldcastle Precast’s StarTrack® product is a patterned surface, at grade, fixed rail crossing segment that is ideal for both railroad tracks and vehicular passage. The precast concrete StarTrack® segments and approach slabs were manufactured at the Telford, Pennsylvania plant.
The GCRTA project consisted of the replacement of the existing grade crossings, transit track, and sidewalks in the immediate vicinity of the crossings with a new concrete crossing surface, asphalt road approaches, new transit track, and new concrete sidewalks.
The general contractor for this project was RailWorks Track Systems, Inc. and the engineering firm was TranSystems.
